Summary:
The machine shop supervisor is responsible for overseeing the setup and operations of all equipment in the shop and develop processes to increase efficiency and ensure that finished products meet all specifications.
You may also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing machinery, such as milling machines or lathes.
This individual will direct the work of the Machinists and operators in the area who will report to them.
This role will also be responsible for the fabrication of quality parts in within a set time schedule using blueprints, sketches and verbal instruction to setup, program and run parts that meet customers' expectations using Lathes, Mills and Conventional equipment and has the ability to measure work to insure it is within set tolerances.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
Will be proficient at programming machines with Cam terminal or controller using efficient methods and be able to make necessary adjustments to ensure proper results.
Will have good mechanical aptitude with a working knowledge of machining practices and give concentrated attention to each job, so as not to cause tool damage and / or mistakes to jobs.
Maintain good customer / coworker relations.
Communicate effectively, so no details of a job are missed.
Be willing to work short notice overtime in order to meet customer needs.
Be sensitive to changing priority needs and switch jobs to meet customer needs.
Keep a neat work area / follow established safety practices.
Properly care for all machine shop equipment Daily clean off the machines used, brushing them off and wiping them down.
Daily sweep up surrounding work area (mop as necessary) Always ensure use of safety glasses, guards and other PPE in department Reads and draws prints and sketches.
Accurately interprets all prints, sketches recognizing symbols and tolerances.
Can create prints and sketches for others in the shop to work from Interpret all prints.
Order / ship materials, parts and supplies Know who to contact and what to do to order materials and supplies for jobs.
Know how to ship parts when done for second operations and to customers.
Understand which forms to use and when and how to use them.
Estimate jobs.
Be able to analyze a job so as to determine an efficient method of producing it.
Have a good knowledge of and use correct tools for jobs.
Fill out estimating work sheets including Time, Materials and secondary operations.
Train and develop staff of operators and machinists on B Shift and be the go to individual on the floor.
Be able to instruct others about shop operations, equipment and procedures.
Requirements and Competencies:
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.
Educational Requirements:
Associate degree in precision machining or relevant certification preferred 5 - 10 years' experience in precision machining within a manufacturing environment 3
years' experience in people management or a team lead position Additional Requirements:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.
May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
